How to Join
We welcome inquiries from prospective members. Please note that all members must be able to read music. In some sections, the ability to transpose and/or read music in multiple clefs may also be necessary.
Balance between the sections is a key element of brass bands, so there are limits upon the number of players in each section.
If you are interested in playing with us, please email us at ABB.Recruiting@gmail.com and we will contact you.
Please tell us a bit about yourself and answer the following in your email:
- Which instrument(s) do you play?
- Which instrument(s) do you currently own
- What is your performance history?
We will schedule a time for you sit in on a rehearsal and meet the members of the ABB.
After you have attended one of our rehearsals we may ask you to become a regular member of the group or you may be added to the wait/substitute list.
Note: The Austin Brass Band uses the following instrumentation: Eb Soprano Cornet, Bb Cornets, Bb Flugelhorn, Eb Tenor horns, Euphoniums, Baritones, Tenor and Bass Trombones, Eb and Bb Tubas, and Percussion. We do not use french horns or trumpets.
We currently have multiple openings for percussionists in the categories below. Please note that all members must be able to read music.
Tuned Percussion: Marimba, Timpani, Glockenspiel, etc. These instruments will be available at rehearsals and concerts, but you will need to have the appropriate mallets to play them.
Indefinite Pitch Percussion: Snare, bass drum, cymbals, etc. These instruments will be available at rehearsals and concerts, but you will need to have the appropriate sticks/mallets to play them.
We are also interested in percussionists that can play kit drums.
